Eden’s café celebrates its first anniversary

A cafe has celebrated its first anniversary with a special all-day event to thank customers.
Eden’s Cafe, in Park View, Whitley Bay, welcomed Mayor Norma Redfearn among their guests at the event on Tuesday.

Run by Janice and experienced chef Rob Eden-Bagley, their pair searched all over the country for an establishment to run, choosing the North East to be closer to Janice’s family in County Durham.

Janice said: “When we found a café for sale in Whitley Bay we knew it was meant to be.

During our first year we’ve been staggered by the number and quality of independent traders in Whitley Bay and we’ve received an enormous amount of support from them and our customers alike, for which we’d like to thank them all immensely.

Eden’s Café has attracted growing numbers of customers and also seen an increase in the number of visitors from outside the area.

Janice, who has spent her working life in hospitality and hotels, said: We’re very proud to be a part of the thriving Whitley Bay business scene.

The town seems to be going from strength to strength and Rob and I are excited to see what the future has to offer independent traders like ourselves.

Temptation Awaits AT EDEN’S CAFE

Brand new Eden’s Café in Whitley Bay promises something to

entice your tastebuds.

Robert Eden-Bagley had always

had a dream – to open his very own café. For the last six years, he and his wife, Janice, have been looking all over the country for the perfect spot. When the former Sugarloaf in Whitley Bay became available, they knew

it was the right place. “We had looked in Hexham, in Corbridge…but when we found this one, it ­ Fi­tted exactly

with what I wanted it to do,” explains Robert. Robert is a patisserie chef and chocolatier, so you can imagine just how tempting the menu is going to be. Alongside some of the much-loved menu items that existing customers will recognise, such as a range

of breakfasts, you will ­ nd a whole host of goodies which make good use of Robert’s expertise. As well as handmade cakes and pastries, a glorious range of hot chocolates will be on offer, with  Flavours such as White Peppermint,  Peanut Butter and Viennese.  You will also spot some liqueur options! Only fresh ingredients will be bought in, with everything on the menu being made by Robert himself and his team. All the ingredients will be locally sourced, with the understandable

exception of the premium Belgian chocolate used in the hot chocolates – you won’t find any pots of powder here! Diners will also see sandwiches with ­ Fillings such as cray­ Fish tails, goats cheese and chicken pesto, all with a choice of breads. There will be salads and snacks, plus some lovely antipasti sharing platters with gorgeous Mediterranean flavours. Robert, himself, will be in the kitchen producing everything; he is not one to just sit behind a name and not get involved. “I am putting my heart soul into it,” he says. “I want to be there for my customers.” Robert and Janice officially take

over the premises on 1st February, but will be carrying out a complete refurbishment before opening under the band new name by the start of March. You will be looked after by the same great start‑ as were there before and Robert and Janice hope that those who loved Sugarloaf will soon love Eden’s Café just as much.
